I have been (somewhat obsessively) developing RedeemerBibleReading.info. It is now live and in use with the next 6-month Bible reading plan for my church. The main tool for the Bible reading plan is our Subsplash app which loads an xml file with the plan details and pulls up the daily reading right within the app. It’s pretty cool, but I have some issues with my personal usage.
This Week’s Reading
First, it only shows you up to the current day. So you can’t look ahead and see the whole week. Sure we also have the reading plan printed, but I really don’t want to use the printed version. So since I now have this handy new site with all the reading plan data, why not display the full week?
Links to YouVersion
Second, the in-app Bible in our church app is really nice to have. However, it lacks a lot of features you might want if you are using this as your main Bible-reading tool. My wife used YouVersion a lot before we started our Church-wide reading plan with our church app. She could easily highlight while listening and doing other things and then be able to go back later and pick up from her highlights to journal. There is no highlighting in the Subsplash Bible reader, however. So I added links to the passages that will open the YouVersion app to that passage, or if you don’t have the app or are on desktop will open the YouVersion web app to the passage.
Check it off
The last new feature is being able to check off that you read a day. If you are using the week view instead of the in-app plan view you don’t get to mark a day as complete. Understandably a little annoying to have to go back into the app, just to mark the day complete. This was a little tricky since the site is static. But thanks to Supabase was really easy.
You can now sign up and sign in through magic links (put in your email address, get an email with a link, click the link and you are taken back to the site logged in). You can check off the days you read as you go and you can also view the full current plan and any previous plans and mark off any of those days as well.
